CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE

Most group field trips are canceled until further notice. Some are able to proceed with special modifications as we proceed with a gradual re-opening of our outdoor events. We will continue to asses the situation and update this space accordingly. Going outside and enjoying nature is a great way to relieve stress and pass these trying times. We encourage you to do so while practicing responsible social distancing.

Our in-person meetings at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens have been suspended until the University allows gatherings to take place. To view our online Zoom programs, you will need access to an internet-capable computer, phone, or similar device. An announcement of the web address to view the program will be on our web site, Facebook page, and on the Birders email list a few days before the program. We may also add more online programs for July and August, which will be announced on the same internet platforms.

After racking up 266 species in Washtenaw County since he started birding here as a lad, often on Washtenaw Audubon field trips, Ben Lucking transferred to the University of Exeter in the English county of Devon. Though he obviously spends much of his time studying, in his spare time he’s seen 170 species in his couple of years in Devon, good for 7th place on the eBird top 100 life list for the county. From his room in Devon via the magic of Zoom, Ben will describe some of his birding adventures in the UK, with a few forays to more exotic locales, such as North Africa.
