Washtenaw Audubon Annual Picnic
On Sunday, July 18, 12:00 p.m. the WAS picnic will take place at Dexter-Huron Metropark, 6535 Huron River Dr, Dexter. The event will include the celebration of the annual Wingnut Awards, which are given to birders who have seen the most birds in the county in the previous year (or two). All are welcome. Bring a dish to pass, or your own meal, if you prefer. We will be riverfront under a picnic pavilion, with no electricity, but with modern bathrooms nearby. Bring the kids, the water toys, and plan to spend the day with old and new friends! You also may want to bring insect repellant.
Please note that there is no electricity available (e.g., for crockpots), but grills are available (bring charcoal). Bring your own cooler with drinks (see rules below regarding alcohol and containers). We will provide plates and utensils.
A Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark and is only $40 annually for regular admission, $29 annually for seniors, or $10 daily.
Metropark rules include: (1) Alcoholic beverages (no stronger than beer/wine) are permitted, and only in picnic areas, (2) Pets must be leashed, (3) Glass bottles and containers are prohibited.
We will be at picnic pavilion B. The closest parking is straight past the entry kiosk, past the first parking on the right, then turn right and go to the end, where pavilion B will be roughly in front of you.
