Our Commitment to the BIPOC Community

Washtenaw Audubon Society is committed to being open and welcoming to all birders regardless of race, gender, age, or sexual orientation. We recognize that the outdoor spaces have not traditionally been very open and welcoming to People of Color and wanted to help create times and places where we intentionally worked on equity and inclusion in the outdoors.

In addition to the open walks that happen each week in the county, we commit to hosting walks specifically for people in the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community each month. At our walks, we welcome birders of all ages and skill levels, focusing on the various aspects of birding from bird identification to community building. If transportation is ever an issue, please e-mail Victor Chen at .
