Searles Preserve - Restoration Work Day [Updated!]
Saturday, March 17, 2018
Plymouth Road Park-n-Ride
Last autumn we started organizing stewardship workdays at local parks, and kicked it off with a tremendously successful outing at Dolph Park, where we cleared invasive shrubs and opened up views onto the marshes and lake.
Now, please join us for a workday at WAS's very own Searles Nature Preserve, on Bolla Road in Augusta Township, on Saturday, March 17 from 1:00-4:00pm.
This nature preserve is a beautiful parcel along Stony Creek, with majestic stands of Oak and Black Cherry, along with some nice wetlands and upland habitat. It is a good place to see migrant passerines in spring and fall. We'd love to make this preserve more accessible to the public and can only do so with your help. The trails are overgrown and needs some TLC.
Our workday will take place rain or shine. Please dress for the weather, in long pants and close-toed shoes. Please bring work gloves, hand saws, loppers, and other hand tools you think might be useful. If you have any hand tools you'd be willing to share, please bring those too. All participants must complete a release form, and minors should have their parents sign one for them at drop-off. Snacks and hot chocolate will be provided!
Parking is very limited at the preserve, so we will meet at the Park n' Ride on Plymouth Road off US Route 23 in Ann Arbor. Meet at 12:30pm for 12:45pm sharp departure and carpool to the Bolla Road entrance. We will work at the preserve from 1:00-4:00pm, then return to the Park n' Ride by 4:15pm.
Minors traveling on Washtenaw Audubon Society field trips without a parent or guardian must bring with them a completed and signed copy of the consent form available by clicking here: Field Trip Permission, Medical Release, and Waiver of Liability (PDF)
