About Washtenaw Audubon

Who are we?

  • The Washtenaw Audubon Society, founded around 1950 as the Washtenaw Audubon Club, is a chapter of the Michigan Audubon Society, which is a chapter of the National Audubon Society. Membership in the Washtenaw Audubon Society is separate from and in addition to membership in the Michigan Audubon Society and the National Audubon Society.

What do we do?

  • Monthly Programs - We hold programs featuring a variety of natural history topics. These programs, open to the public, are held at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens, 1800 N. Dixboro Rd., Ann Arbor, Michigan, on the third Wednesday of every month, except July, August and December. Programs generally start at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments follow the program. Membership information is available at the monthly programs.
  • Field Trips - We conduct natural history field trips to places as close as the Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor and as far away as Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
  • Ann Arbor Christmas Bird Count - We sponsor this exciting annual event.
  • We participate in and support the North American Migration Count and the North American Breeding Bird Surveys.
  • We own some local nature preserves and work with local school districts in a volunteer naturalist program.
  • We support wise stewardship of natural areas and green space.
  • These activities are open to non-members, but membership dues support these activities! Click HERE for membership information.
